Thypoch Releases 21mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens for Leica M-Mount

Chinese company Thypoch, a subsidiary of DZOfilm, has introduced the Simera 21mm f/1.4 ASPH lens, expanding its range of fast M-mount primes. This model joins existing 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 75mm lenses in the Simera series, all sharing a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and a uniform industrial design.

industrial design.

The 21mm f/1.4 ASPH is a compact ultra-wide-angle lens with a total length of 2.73 inches and a weight of approximately 428 grams. It features a 13-element, 11-group optical formula, incorporating three extra-low dispersion elements, three high refractive index elements and two precision-molded aspherical lenses, all of them intended to reduce chromatic aberration and geometric distortion while improving edge-to-edge sharpness. A floating focus design is employed to maintain image quality throughout the focusing range, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.23 meters.

The aperture mechanism consists of 14 blades, designed to create smooth, rounded bokeh with reduced artifacts such as onion-ring patterns. The aperture range spans from f/1.4 to f/16, and a 62mm filter thread is provided at the front. The lens covers a full-frame image circle of 43.2mm.

Thypoch states that the lens is intended for use in landscape, documentary and street photography, with potential for video applications due to its de-clickable aperture ring. A tactile marker on the focusing ring at 0.7 meters provides a physical reference for rangefinder users. Additionally, the lens includes a zone focusing guide engraved on its housing.
