Insta360 Introduces Mic Air Ultra-Light Wireless
Chinese company Insta360 has introduced the Mic Air, a compact wireless microphone designed to integrate with its camera ecosystem, including the latest Insta360 X5. Weighing 7.9 grams, the device is similar in size to an Apple AirTag but is lighter than comparable products such as the DJI Mic Mini. It can be attached magnetically to clothing or worn as a pendant, catering to creators who prioritize lightweight, unobtrusive audio equipment.
The Mic Air delivers 48 kHz/24-bit audio, features built-in noise reduction and includes physical controls for recording, muting and toggling noise cancellation. When paired with compatible cameras like the Insta360 X5, users can also operate the mic remotely. Under optimal conditions without noise cancellation, the device offers up to 10 hours of battery life, dropping to approximately 7.5 hours with noise cancellation enabled and wireless camera connection active. Wireless range varies from 30 to 50 meters depending on usage.
The receiver mainl works via Bluetooth, allowing integration with smartphones, tablets and computers, and is also compatible with the Insta360 Flow Series gimbals; but a USB-C receiver is alsoavailable for broader compatibility and greater reliability than Bluetooth. The mic functions natively with the Insta360 X5, Ace Pro 2 and Flow Series, with potential for expanded support.
The Mic Air is sold individually for $49, while the transmitter and receiver kit is priced at $69. For users seeking a broader content creation setup instead, Insta360 has launched the Ultimate Creator Bundle, which includes the X5 camera, Mic Air, Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0 and a Quick Reader for file transfers. The bundle is priced at $669, while the X5 alone retails for $550. Insta360 emphasizes the bundle’s utility as a self-contained production kit, particularly when used with its editing tools within the Insta360 app.
