Insta360 Introduces Flow 2 With AI Tracking
Chinese company Insta360 has released the Flow 2, a compact smartphone gimbal that serves as a more affordable alternative to the previously announced Flow 2 Pro. While both models share several core features, such as AI-powered Deep Track 4.0 subject tracking, NFC one-tap pairing, support for the new Insta360 Mic Air and integrated functions like a spotlight and teleprompter mode, the Flow 2 omits several of the Pro version’s exclusive capabilities. These include a tracking ring light, selfie mirror, transparent motor design, 360-degree infinite pan tracking, free tilt mode and native DockKit integration for Apple devices.
The Flow 2 is positioned as a multi-purpose gimbal with integrated 3-axis stabilization, a foldable selfie stick, a tripod and a 10-hour battery life. It supports phones ranging from 6.9 to 10 mm thick and 64 to 84 mm wide, and includes a USB-C port. The gimbal folds to a compact size of 178 mm in length and weighs approximately 348 grams, with an additional 25 grams from the magnetic phone clamp. Its internal battery can also provide power to the mounted smartphone during operation.
Deep Track 4.0, the latest version of Insta360’s tracking system, introduces improved subject recognition, including the ability to maintain tracking even when subjects are temporarily obstructed. It also supports multi-person tracking and offers improved performance for activities such as group vlogging or choreographed scenes. The Pro Framing Grid, based on the golden ratio, offers nine predefined framing angles to assist with composition by tapping the screen.
The Flow 2 is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. While it lacks DockKit support, iPhone users can operate the gimbal via an Apple Watch, and Android users can control it remotely with a secondary smartphone. For Android users, the Insta360 app includes a Quick Launch feature that can automatically open the native camera app when the gimbal is unfolded.
There are two bundle options available. The standard version, priced at $109.99, supports subject tracking only within the Insta360 app, with limited compatibility for features like Active Zoom Tracking, which is restricted to select iPhone models. The AI Tracker Bundle, priced at $129.99, includes an accessory that enables subject tracking in third-party applications such as TikTok, Instagram and Zoom. It also adds a built-in spotlight, which is not present in the standard bundle.
