Laowa Introduces PL-Mount Version of 10mm T2.9 Zero-D VV Cine Lens

Venus Optics has officially expanded its Laowa 10mm T2.9 Zero-D VV Cine lens lineup with the release of a native PL-mount version, addressing the continued demand for compatibility with professional digital cinema cameras. While the optical design remains consistent with previous versions, this new configuration integrates directly into standard cinema workflows without the need for adapters, making it more practical for high-end productions.

The lens retains its defining characteristics, offering a rectilinear 130.3° diagonal field of view across a 46.31mm image circle, ensuring full coverage for full-frame and VistaVision sensors, including those found in the ARRI ALEXA LF, RED V-RAPTOR and Sony VENICE 2. The Zero-D (“Zero Distortion”) design minimizes geometric distortion, making the lens particularly suitable for architectural, interior or visual effects work requiring strict linearity.

The 10mm focal length is coupled with a fast T2.9 maximum aperture, supported by a 14-blade iris that enables smooth background separation. Despite its ultra-wide angle, the lens offers a minimum focusing distance of just 12 centimeters, allowing for close-up shots with emphasized foreground perspective. The optical construction consists of 15 elements arranged in 9 groups, including aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements aimed at suppressing chromatic aberrations and maintaining image sharpness across the frame.

Mechanically, the lens features geared rings for both focus and aperture, compatible with 0.8M follow-focus systems. The focus ring has a 113° throw, and the aperture ring a 63° throw. A 77mm front filter thread is integrated into the 84mm diameter barrel, an uncommon convenience for lenses of this field of view, allowing the use of standard ND, UV or polarizing filters. The lens measures 84.8mm in length, weighs approximately 530 grams, and is constructed from anodized aluminum for durability under continuous production use.

Laowa’s ultra-wide full-frame cine lineup also includes other focal lengths, such as the 9mm T5.8 VV, 12mm T2.9 Lite Zero-D VV and 14mm T2.6 Zero-D VV. The 10mm T2.9 occupies a middle ground in the series, offering the widest rectilinear field of view that still accommodates standard front-mounted filters.

The lens is now available in PL, LPL, Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z and L mounts. It ships with a set of flange shims for back-focus adjustment, front and rear caps, and a hard transport case. The official retail price is $1,699 USD.
