Insta360 Releases Go Ultra Compact Action Camera
Insta360 has introduced the Go Ultra, its latest compact action camera in the Go series. The new model departs from the previous pill-shaped design of the Go 3S, opting instead for a square form factor measuring 46 x 45.7 x 18.3 millimeters and weighing 53 grams.
The camera uses a 1/1.28-inch sensor, significantly larger than the one found in the Go 3S and slightly larger than that in the GoPro Hero 13. The increase in sensor size is accompanied by a new 5nm AI processor that enables new features such as PureVideo, an algorithm-based system designed to reduce noise and improve brightness in low-light environments. An additional ambient light sensor has been added to manage flicker and real-time color calibration.
Video capabilities include recording at up to 4K at 60 frames per second, an improvement over the 4K30p limit of its predecessor. Slow-motion capture is available at 1080p and 240 frames per second. Still image resolution now reaches up to 50 megapixels, compared to 12 megapixels on the previous model. The fixed lens offers an equivalent focal length of 14.27 millimeters with an aperture of f/2.85. Active HDR video can be recorded at up to 4K30p.
Battery performance has also been improved: the standalone camera operates for approximately 70 minutes on a single charge, while the combination with the Action Pod extends recording time to 200 minutes. The fast-charging system allows the battery to reach 80 percent in roughly 12 minutes. Unlike earlier models in the Go series, the Go Ultra does not use integrated storage; instead, it supports microSD cards with capacities up to 2TB.
The device includes a magnetic base, enabling it to attach to metal surfaces or be worn using accessories such as pendants and clips.
The Insta360 Go Ultra can be paired via Bluetooth with the Action Pod, a separated device which features a touchscreen, allowing for real-time monitoring. The standalone camera has an IPX8 waterproof rating and can be submerged to a depth of 10 meters without additional housing, although the Action Pod itself is not waterproof and requires a separate case for underwater use.
The Go Ultra is available in Midnight Black or Arctic White and is priced at $449.99. The standard kit includes the camera, Action Pod, quick-release safety cord, magnetic clips, a USB-C cable and a lens guard.
