Sigma Announces 12mm F1.4 Lens for APS-C Mirrorless Cameras
Sigma has announced the 12mm F1.4 DC Contemporary, an ultra-wide-angle prime lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras, available for Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Canon RF mounts. This model becomes the widest autofocus F1.4 lens for APS-C cameras in Sigma’s lineup, joining the existing 16mm, 23mm, 30mm, and 56mm F1.4 primes.
The lens provides an equivalent focal length of 18mm on Sony and Fujifilm cameras and 19mm on Canon APS-C bodies, offering an angle of view of 99.6°. It measures 69.4mm in length, has a maximum diameter of 68mm, and weighs 225g in the Sony E-mount version, making it compact and lightweight for its class. A 62mm front filter thread is included.
Optical construction consists of 14 elements in 12 groups, including three double-sided aspherical elements and two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements which help to minimize chromatic aberration, distortion, and sagittal coma flare. The diaphragm uses nine rounded blades, with a minimum aperture of F16. The minimum focusing distance is 17.2 cm, providing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8.4.

The autofocus system employs a stepping motor intended for smooth and precise operation, with reduced focus breathing for video recording. The E- and X-mount versions include a manual aperture ring, while the RF version replaces this with a customizable control ring. The lens is sealed against dust and moisture and has a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element, though it is not fully waterproof.
Sigma states that the lens is manufactured in Aizu, Japan, and supplied with a lens hood, front and rear caps, and a carrying pouch. Firmware updates can be applied via USB-C connectivity.
The Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC Contemporary will be available starting September 4, 2025, at a price of $629.
