AstrHori Releases Ultra-Wide 6mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens

Chinese company AstrHori has released a new 6mm f/2.8 circular fisheye lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Designed as a fully manual optic, it is available in Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and L-Mount versions.

The lens produces a circular image with pronounced distortion and an expansive 220-degree field of view, placing virtually the entire surrounding scene within the frame, thus making it particularly suitable for specialized uses such as astrophotography, architecture, creative video work and experimental still photography. Its large aperture of f/2.8 allows operation in low-light conditions, and the diaphragm closes down to f/16. The construction includes ten optical elements in eight groups and an eight-blade aperture, including two low-dispersion elements and four high-refractive index lenses. It can focus as close as 0.08 meters, offering exaggerated perspective effects at minimal distances, but lacks autofocus and electronic communication with the camera body. Resolution supports up to 61 megapixels to match high-resolution full-frame sensors.

Physically, the AstrHori 6mm f/2.8 weighs 340 grams, a relatively light weight for its class, and features a bulbous front element, a common trait of fisheye designs, and accepts no front filter attachment.

The lens ships with front and rear caps, a user manual and a lens case, and AstrHori offers a 12-month warranty covering defects in materials and manufacturing. The lens is now available at a price of $299.
