7Artisans Introduces AF 35mm f/1.8 for Sony Full-Frame

Chinese company 7Artisans has released a new autofocus lens for Sony full-frame cameras, the AF 35mm f/1.8.

The lens is constructed with 11 elements arranged in 8 groups, including two aspherical, two high-refractive and one extra-low dispersion element, and employs an 11-blade diaphragm designed to produce rounded bokeh. The aperture ranges from f/1.8 to f/16, controlled by a clickless ring. Autofocus is driven by a stepping motor, with support for subject tracking. The lens also includes an AF/MF switch, a customizable function button and a USB-C port for firmware updates.

Physically, the AF 35mm f/1.8 is made of metal and weighs 426 grams, measures 94 millimeters in length and uses 62mm filters.  Its minimum focusing distance is 0.4 meters, enabling moderately close shooting but not macro work. Weather sealing is limited to dust- and splash-resistance, which adds some practical protection in outdoor conditions.

The 35mm focal length is often regarded as offering a natural perspective, suitable for street photography, environmental portraits, travel and documentary-style work. Combined with the fast aperture, the lens provides options for shooting in low light and achieving subject separation through shallow depth of field. Moreover, its size and weight can make it a balanced choice for use on Sony mirrorless bodies without introducing excessive front-heaviness.

The 7Artisans AF 35mm f/1.8 is available now for Sony E-mount at $299.
