Lomography Reveals New Lomo MC-A 35mm Film Camera
Austrian company Lomography has introduced the Lomo MC-A, a new 35mm film camera that combines analog operation with more typically digital features. The camera is built around a 32mm f/2.8 multi-coated glass lens, uses full-frame 35mm film and follows a design aesthetic reminiscent of high-end compact cameras from the late 1990s and early 2000s rather than the plastic-bodied cameras commonly associated with the brand. Moreover, unlike many recent film models aimed at beginners, the MC-A features an all-metal body, autofocus, and both automatic and full manual exposure controls.
The MC-A offers program auto, aperture priority, and full manual modes, also offering unlimited multiple exposures, with film advance and rewind handled manually by levers. Shutter speeds range from bulb to 1/500s, ISO can be set manually from 12 to 3200 or read via DX coding, and exposure compensation reaches up to ±2 EV. Autofocus operation is supplemented by manually selectable zone focus settings at 0.4 m, 0.8 m, 1.5 m, 3 m, and infinity. Physical dials control shutter speed and exposure compensation, while aperture is adjusted via a ring around the lens.
A built-in flash with a guide number of 9 is included, defaulting to off, with options for automatic firing and a first-curtain long-exposure programmatic mode; also, a PC sync socket allows the use of external flash equipment. The viewfinder is a reflective bright-frame optical type, while an LCD screen on the top plate displays shooting information including frame count, battery status, and flash mode.
The body measures 125.8 × 69.5 × 42 mm and weighs 332 g without the battery. A film window is included on the back to verify loading, and the camera provides a 30.5 mm filter thread and a standard tripod mount. The overall control layout reflects an attempt to provide manual handling familiar to experienced film photographers while remaining approachable to users accustomed to digital cameras. Power comes from a USB-C rechargeable CR2 battery.
The MC-A is supplied with several accessories, including a leather strap, protective wrap, lens cap, UV filter, Splitzer attachment, and colored flash gels.
