AstrHori Presents New 9mm F2.8 Manual Ultra-Wide Lens

AstrHori has introduced the 9mm f/2.8, an ultra-wide-angle manual focus lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras, compatible with Sony E, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, and Micro Four Thirds mounts. The lens continues the Chinese company’s recent expansion into affordable, specialized optics. Previous releases, such as the AF 27mm f/2.8 and 6mm f/2.8 circular fisheye, have positioned AstrHori within the budget creative tools segment: with the 9mm f/2.8, the company adds a non-fisheye ultra-wide option to its lineup, filling the gap between its extreme fisheye and standard wide-angle offerings.

The 9mm f/2.8 offers a 111.4° angle of view, equivalent to a 13.5mm focal length on full-frame cameras, and features an aperture range from f/2.8 to f/16 with a seven-blade diaphragm. The optical design consists of 11 elements in eight groups, including one aspherical and two extra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and maintain sharpness across the frame. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.2 meters and a 62mm front filter thread, the AstrHori 9mm can be particularly suitable in architectural, landscape, interior, and travel photography.

Its all-metal construction includes a knurled focusing ring, engraved markings, and a built-in petal-shaped lens hood. The lens weighs approximately 307 grams, maintaining a compact and solid form factor suitable for field use.

As a fully manual lens, the AstrHori 9mm requires users to set both focus and aperture directly on the barrel. Although it lacks autofocus, the ultra-wide focal length and deep depth of field make manual focusing relatively straightforward.

AstrHori positions the lens as an alternative to more automated, higher-priced wide-angle options. Compared to competitors such as the Viltrox AF 9mm f/2.8 indeed, which features autofocus and a lighter build, the AstrHori lens prioritizes distortion control, optical quality, and mechanical durability.

The lens is currently available for $169.
