OnePlus Presents New OnePlus 15 with DetailMax Camera System

OnePlus has introduced the OnePlus 15, marking a shift away from its long-running Hasselblad collaboration and toward a fully internal imaging strategy built around the new DetailMax Engine. This system is designed to give the company greater control over color science, tone mapping, and multi-frame processing, forming the basis for a new computational approach that replaces the influence previously provided by its external partner.

The device features a revised triple-camera array, with all three units built around 50-megapixel sensors. The main camera uses Sony’s IMX906 (Type 1/1.56) paired with an f/1.4 lens. Although this sensor is smaller than the Type 1/1.4 LYT-808 used in the OnePlus 13, the company maintains that its updated computational pipeline compensates through improved sharpness, dynamic range, and exposure control. Shooting modes tied to the DetailMax Engine include Ultra Clear 26MP, which merges several 12-megapixel frames with a 50-megapixel base exposure, and Clear Burst, which captures dual-exposure sequences at up to 10 frames per second, expanding the previous model’s limits. Low-light performance is supported by the Clear Night Engine, using dual analog gain to combine shorter and longer exposures for noise control and better detail preservation.

The ultrawide camera incorporates a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50D sensor with a 116-degree field of view and an f/2 aperture. The telephoto camera instead uses the 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor, offering 3.5× optical zoom with a digital extension to 7×.

Video capabilities include 4K recording at 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision HDR. Real-time tone mapping separates subject and background, aiming for more stable exposure in variable lighting. The phone also supports O-Log recording with live LUT preview, a continuous-zoom portrait mode, and an underwater mode that enables physical button controls when the touchscreen becomes unusable.

Beyond the camera system, the OnePlus 15 includes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPO display capable of 165Hz refresh rates and a 3200Hz touch-sampling rate. The battery capacity increases to 7,300mAh, with 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The device carries multiple durability ratings, including IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K. A new Low Injection Pressure Over-molding process enables bezels as thin as 1.15 mm while protecting the display circuitry.

The phone is offered in several finishes, including Sand Storm, Infinite Black, and a limited Ultra Violet edition. Storage options begin at 12GB RAM with 256GB at $899.99, and extend to 16GB with 512GB at $999.99. Availability varies by region, with U.S. sales pending FCC clearance.
