7artisans Unveils Compact Lite Autofocus Prime Trio for APS-C Cameras
7Artisans has introduced a new series of autofocus prime lenses for APS-C mirrorless cameras, marking a further step away from the company’s traditional focus on manual optics. The new “Lite” lineup consists of 25mm f/1.8, 35mm f/1.8, and 50mm f/1.8 lenses, currently listed only on the manufacturer’s Chinese-language website. The lenses are intended for Sony E and Fujifilm X mounts, with some sources also indicating future availability for Nikon Z. At present, detailed information for international markets remains limited and inconsistent.
The three lenses are designed as a uniform set rather than as individual products. All share the same physical dimensions, measuring approximately 67 mm in diameter and 51 mm in length, and they use an identical 58 mm filter thread. Weight varies only slightly, ranging from 178 g to 183 g. This standardization simplifies handling when switching between focal lengths and reduces the need for different accessories. The external design is minimal, with no aperture ring, no optical image stabilization, and no weather sealing. Each lens includes a focus ring and a USB-C port intended for firmware updates.
Optically, the lenses differ according to focal length while maintaining the same maximum aperture of f/1.8 and a nine-blade diaphragm. The 25mm lens, equivalent to roughly 37 mm on full frame, uses an eight-element, five-group construction and focuses down to 0.25 m. The 35mm version, offering an angle of view similar to a 52 mm full-frame lens, employs seven elements in six groups with a minimum focusing distance of 0.35 m. The 50mm lens, equivalent to about 75 mm, uses a simpler optical design with six elements in five groups and focuses as close as 0.55 m. According to the manufacturer, all three lenses incorporate high-refractive-index glass to control aberrations while keeping size and weight low.
Autofocus across the Lite series is driven by STM motors, with claimed support for face and eye detection on compatible camera bodies. Beyond basic focusing functionality, no additional electronic or mechanical controls are provided.
