Godox Releases V1mid Compact TTL Round-Head Flash
Chinese company Godox has introduced the V1mid, a compact on-camera flash positioned between the company’s entry-level speedlights and its higher-end V1 models. The unit expands the TTL Li-ion round-head lineup with a smaller body while retaining core features aimed at professional and advanced amateur photographers.
The V1mid adopts the round-head design that characterizes the V-series, which the company states is intended to produce more even illumination and smoother light transitions compared to conventional rectangular flash heads. The head can rotate 330 degrees and tilt from -7 to 120 degrees for bounce applications, and it supports automatic and manual zoom. The flash is also compatible with the AK-R1 magnetic accessory system, allowing the attachment of modifiers such as diffusers, grids, and gels. When paired with the optional S2 or S3 bracket, it can also be used with Bowens-mount light modifiers, extending its application beyond direct on-camera use.
The V1mid is powered by a removable 7.2V, 2200mAh lithium-ion battery rated for up to 650 full-power flashes per charge, and its recycling time is specified at up to 1.7 seconds. The flash output can be adjusted from 1/256 to full power, and the flash supports TTL, manual, and multi-stroboscopic modes. High-speed sync up to 1/8000 second is available, along with first- and second-curtain sync options and flash exposure compensation in 1/3-stop increments. Godox indicates that thermal management automatically adjusts recycle times during extended high-output use to prevent overheating.
An integrated 2.4 GHz X wireless radio system enables the V1mid to operate as part of a broader Godox lighting setup: it can function as a transmitter or receiver depending on the version, and it supports multiple channels and groups with compatible Godox triggers, including the XPro II, X2T, X3, and X3Pro. In addition to hot shoe and wireless operation (with a stated range of up to 70 meters), a 2.5mm sync port provides a wired connection option. Certain features vary by mount: sender flash functionality and camera menu control are limited to the Canon version, global shutter sync is exclusive to the Sony model, and modeling flash support is not available on all variants.
The V1mid also incorporates a 2-inch touchscreen alongside physical controls for navigation and settings adjustments. A built-in 2W LED modeling lamp rated at approximately 5300K with adjustable brightness is included, although availability of modeling flash functionality depends on the specific mount. The unit weighs approximately 413 grams with the battery installed, making it lighter than the V1 Pro and V100 models in the same series. Charging is supported via USB-C as well as through a dedicated adapter.
The V1mid is available in Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, and OM System versions. Each package includes the rechargeable battery, a USB-C charging cable and adapter, a mini stand, and a storage pouch. As with other recent products from the manufacturer, the V1mid will also be distributed under the Flashpoint brand in certain markets, where it is sold as the Flashpoint Zoom Li-ion X Mid R2 TTL Round Flash. The hardware and feature set remain the same regardless of branding.
The suggested retail price is $179, although final pricing may vary depending on region and local taxes.
