Vivo Presents X300 Ultra with 400mm Lens Extender

Chinese company Vivo has presented an early preview of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Vivo X300 Ultra, during Mobile World Congress 2026 held in Barcelona. The device was shown alongside a set of accessories aimed at extending its imaging capabilities, including a telephoto lens attachment co-developed with Zeiss and a modular camera cage intended for video production.

The most notable accessory is the Vivo Zeiss Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra, an external optical unit designed to extend the focal length of the smartphone’s telephoto camera. The attachment provides a field of view equivalent to approximately 400mm on a full-frame camera, placing it well beyond the typical telephoto range found in smartphones, which generally falls between about 70 mm and 200 mm equivalent. The extender is designed to work with the phone’s built-in telephoto camera, which uses a 200-megapixel sensor. According to Vivo, the additional optics enable the system to achieve roughly 17× optical zoom.

The optical unit is described as having an apochromatic design intended to control chromatic aberration and maintain color accuracy at long focal lengths. Vivo also states that the extender supports the full resolution of the 200-megapixel sensor and that, through in-sensor cropping, the system can reach an effective focal length equivalent to approximately 1600 mm while maintaining usable image quality. The lens is also equipped with optical image stabilization described as “gimbal-grade,” intended to assist with both still photography and telephoto video capture.

The extender attaches to the smartphone through a dedicated mounting system integrated into a special case and mounting plate. This approach is similar to the optical accessory system previously used with earlier devices in the X-series lineup, but the new unit significantly increases the achievable focal length.

Alongside the telephoto attachment, Vivo demonstrated a professional camera cage designed for the X300 Ultra: the accessory provides a dual-hand grip and includes multiple cold-shoe mounts for attaching external equipment such as LED lights, microphones, or storage accessories. Physical controls for shutter release and zoom are integrated into the cage. The unit also incorporates an adjustable cooling fan intended to maintain stable operating temperatures during prolonged video recording or high-performance camera use.

Although Vivo has revealed some elements of the imaging system, the company has not yet released full technical specifications for the smartphone itself. The device remains partially concealed in the demonstrations, and details about the complete camera configuration have not been disclosed.

Pricing has not been confirmed. Vivo has indicated that the X300 Ultra is expected to launch first in China, with broader international availability planned later in the year.
