Cosina Teases New Voigtländer VM Primes

Cosina presented several new products during the CP+ 2026 exhibition in Yokohama, including two manual-focus prime lenses under the Voigtländer brand designed for Leica M-mount cameras. The lenses, the APO-Skopar 75mm f/2.8 and the APO-Lanthar 90mm f/4 Close Focus, expand the VM-mount lineup with compact telephoto options that emphasize optical correction and reduced size rather than large maximum apertures.

The Voigtländer APO-Skopar 75mm f/2.8 is a medium-telephoto lens built around an apochromatic optical design intended to reduce axial chromatic aberration. The lens uses seven elements arranged in six groups and incorporates a 10-blade diaphragm. Its compact construction measures approximately 44 millimeters in length from the mount and weighs about 191 grams: it has a maximum diameter of roughly 54 millimeters and accepts 43-millimeter front filters. It is designed to operate with the standard rangefinder focusing distance of 0.7 meters to infinity. The barrel is constructed from metal and will be offered in both silver and black finishes.

The second lens introduced is the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 90mm f/4 Close Focus. Like the 75mm model, it adopts an apochromatic optical design to control chromatic aberration and maintain consistent image quality across the frame. Its optical formula consists of eight elements arranged in seven groups, paired with a 10-blade aperture diaphragm, and the lens measures approximately 54.8 millimeters in length and weighs around 235 grams while maintaining compatibility with 43-millimeter filters.

The distinguishing feature of the 90mm lens is its extended focusing capability: while most rangefinder-coupled lenses focus down to about 0.7 meters, the APO-Lanthar 90mm f/4 can focus as close as 0.5 meters, and features a mechanical click stop positioned at the 0.7-meter point to indicate the limit of rangefinder coupling.

Both lenses are positioned as smaller alternatives to faster Voigtländer telephoto lenses already available in the VM lineup, such as the Nokton 75mm f/1.5 Aspherical and the APO-Ultron 90mm f/2.8. By adopting slower maximum apertures, Cosina has reduced size and weight, making the lenses more compact for rangefinder bodies and minimizing viewfinder obstruction.

The lenses displayed at CP+ 2026 are still prototypes. Final specifications, pricing, and release dates have not yet been confirmed.
