Sigma Develops 85mm F1.2 DG Art Lens
Sigma has announced the development of the 85mm F1.2 DG Art, a large-aperture medium-telephoto lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, that will be released for Sony E-mount and L-Mount systems.
The 85mm F1.2 DG Art is intended to expand Sigma’s lineup of very fast prime lenses and will join the existing 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art and 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art models: with the introduction of the 85mm lens, the company states that its series of full-frame f/1.2 Art primes will be complete.
At this stage, Sigma has disclosed only limited technical details: the company indicates that the lens incorporates a new optical design intended to maintain high resolution even when used at its maximum aperture. Autofocus operation will be driven by a dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system, a technology already used in several recent Sigma lenses, that employs two linear motors to move the focusing group quickly and with reduced noise. The company states that the system is designed to provide fast and accurate focusing performance for both still photography and video recording.
Sigma also describes the lens as relatively compact and lightweight for its class, although exact dimensions and weight have not yet been disclosed. Early prototype images shown during CP+ 2026 suggest a design that may be smaller than some existing 85mm f/1.2 lenses from other manufacturers, but final specifications have not been confirmed.
Sigma has not announced a Canon RF-mount version and has not yet provided information about pricing. Initial information suggests the product will be released in September 2026.
