7Artisans Reveals PL 4-in-1 Lens Adapter
7Artisans has introduced a new PL Lens Adapter Kit designed to allow ARRI PL-mount cinema lenses to be used on several modern mirrorless camera systems. The adapter is built around a modular design that supports Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and L-Mount cameras.
The kit consists of a central PL-mount adapter body combined with four interchangeable camera mounts: by replacing the rear mount, users can attach the same PL lens to different camera systems without purchasing separate adapters for each mount. This approach is intended to simplify workflows for filmmakers using mixed camera setups or production environments where multiple brands of cameras are employed.
PL-mount lenses are widely used in cinema production because of their mechanical durability, standardized mount design, and consistent optical characteristics. These lenses are typically manual-focus and designed to be used with follow-focus systems, which makes electronic communication between the lens and camera unnecessary in many cases. The 7Artisans adapter therefore operates as a fully mechanical interface and does not provide electronic contacts for autofocus, aperture control, or data transmission.
The adapter incorporates a rotating locking mechanism designed to secure the lens to the mount; a raised handle and textured ring are used to tighten or release the locking collar, helping maintain a firm connection between the lens and the camera body. This design is intended to support the weight and mechanical stresses associated with professional cinema lenses, which are often significantly heavier than standard mirrorless lenses.
According to the manufacturer, the adapter is built with precise mechanical tolerances to maintain the correct flange distance between the lens and the image sensor. Maintaining this distance is important when adapting PL lenses, as even small variations can affect focusing accuracy and overall optical performance. The adapter body is constructed from aluminum and weighs between approximately 151 and 162 grams depending on the mount configuration.
The kit includes the main PL adapter unit, interchangeable mounts for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and L-Mount systems, along with mounting screws and a hex key required to change mounts. Switching between camera systems requires removing and reinstalling the mount plate using the provided tools.
