Insta360 Updates the GO 3S With a Retro Kit

Insta360 announced the GO 3S Retro Bundle, a special edition configuration of its existing GO 3S action camera that reframes the existing product around a different shooting philosophy, shifting it away from action sports documentation and toward casual street photography and everyday carry.

The central addition is the Retro Viewfinder, a housing in which the GO 3S camera sits and which gives the assembly the general appearance and handling of a compact film camera from the 1990s. Users look down into the optical viewfinder from above, a waist-level framing approach that produces inherently approximate compositions — a characteristic shared with medium-format twin-lens reflex cameras such as the Rolleiflex or Yashica Mat, though the comparison is mostly aesthetic rather than functional. A small front-facing window doubles as a selfie mirror when the upper viewfinder is covered with an included magnetic clip.

The GO 3S camera itself, unchanged from its standard configuration, weighs 39.1 grams and is waterproof to 10 meters without any additional housing. The lens has a focal length equivalent to roughly 16mm with an aperture of f/2.8: it shoots video at up to 4K at 30 frames per second, with 2.7K available up to 100fps, while still images reach 11 megapixels. The camera supports DNG raw capture alongside JPEG.

One of the functional consequences of this configuration is the absence of the Action Pod — the standard docking accessory that includes a screen, physical controls, and a supplementary battery. With the Action Pod, the GO 3S can sustain up to 140 minutes of continuous recording; without it, battery life falls to approximately 38 minutes. The Retro Bundle includes a Battery Pack module in place of the Action Pod, which adds one additional full charge, extending total runtime to around 76 minutes. Camera settings and live preview must be managed through the Insta360 smartphone application, connected via Bluetooth.

The camera body itself functions as a physical shutter button. It can be configured via the app to capture a still image on a single press, or start video recording on a double press, waking from standby in either case and returning to it afterward.

Moreover, the Retro Bundle introduces three new in-camera filters: Negative Film, which applies reduced saturation and cooler tones associated with color negative film; Positive Film, which increases contrast and color intensity in the manner of slide film; and a Sticker Filter that overlays retro graphic elements on the image. Five new color profiles are also added to the camera’s processing options: NC Film, CC Film, GR-F, Monochrome, and Vintage Vacation, bringing the total number of available profiles to eleven.

The bundle includes the GO 3S camera, the Retro Viewfinder, the Battery Pack, an NFC custom skin that launches the Insta360 app when a compatible smartphone is brought close to it, a neck strap, a Magnet Pendant for hands-free clothing-mounted shooting, a lens guard, and a USB-C to USB-A cable. Two color variants are available: Canvas White and Classic Red.

Pricing in the United States starts at $250 for the 64GB version and $270 for 128GB. A Special Edition configuration at $300 includes the full accessory set.
