Brightin Star Teases the APO 35mm f/1.7 for M-Mount
Brightin Star has announced the APO 35mm f/1.7 ASPH., a manual-focus full-frame prime lens for Leica M-mount, first shown as a prototype at CP+ 2026 in Yokohama in February and now available for pre-order through a Kickstarter campaign. The lens is the second M-mount product from Brightin Star, joining the 28mm f/2.8 Pancake released in 2023, and the first in what the Chinese company calls its Apex Series — a new tier positioned above its standard lens lineup. While the M-mount is the native configuration, the lens is also adaptable to Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, Fujifilm X, Fujifilm GFX, and L-Mount via separately available adapters.
The optical formula comprises 11 elements in seven groups, with six aspherical surfaces and an apochromatic design intended to minimize chromatic aberration across the frame. The aperture diaphragm uses 11 blades for a circular opening at all aperture settings, covering a range from f/1.7 to f/16. The minimum focusing distance is 0.3 meters when used in live view or on an adapted body; rangefinder coupling on Leica M cameras limits this to the standard 0.7 meters. The focus ring has a 307-degree throw, providing precise control for manual focusing. Physically, the lens measures 43mm in length and weighs 266 grams. The finish is described by Brightin Star as inspired by classic black paint lacquer, referencing the semi-gloss oil-based coatings associated with mid-century Leica glass.

The Kickstarter campaign is the first time Brightin Star has used crowdfunding to launch a product: the company states it has been developing the lens for more than two years. The Kickstarter price is $759, representing a 37% discount against the announced retail price of $1,199. Shipping is expected to begin in November 2026.
