TTArtisan Expands the Neo Series With an AF 85mm f/1.8
TTArtisan has announced the AF 85mm f/1.8 Neo, a full-frame autofocus portrait prime for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts, and the second lens in the Neo series following the AF 50mm f/1.8 Neo released in July 2026. Like its predecessor, the 85mm is positioned around a single stated priority: optical performance without additional features or controls.
The optical formula comprises 12 elements in eight groups, including two ED elements and two high-refractive-index elements. The aperture diaphragm uses 11 blades, and autofocus is handled by a stepping motor. Minimum focusing distance is 0.8 meters, and the front filter thread is 62mm. The body is constructed from reinforced fiberglass rather than metal, measures 90.5mm in length, and weighs 332 grams on the E-mount version.
As with the AF 50mm f/1.8 Neo, the lens has no focus ring. What appears to be one on the barrel is in fact a grip element only, with no mechanical or electronic function. The lens is autofocus-only, with no manual override, and the smooth barrel surface is designed to accept 3D-printed external shells — a modular customization system TTArtisan introduced with the 50mm. The absence of a focus ring and the fiberglass construction are the primary means by which the lens reaches its price point.

The AF 85mm f/1.8 Neo is the least expensive autofocus 85mm f/1.8 currently available for either Sony E or Nikon Z mounts, undercutting the next cheapest options — the AstrHori 85mm f/1.8 II AF and the Meike 85mm f/1.8 SE Mark II, both at $199 — by exactly half. Sony’s own FE 85mm f/1.8 retails at around $648 and Nikon’s Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S at approximately $747.
