Xiaomi Introduces Leica-Equipped 18 Fold in China
Xiaomi has introduced the 18 Fold, a wide-format foldable smartphone that combines a shorter, broader body with a Leica-developed triple-camera system. Announced in China on September 7 and released locally on September 10, the device represents a departure from the taller proportions generally associated with book-style foldables.
The phone uses a 5.38-inch external display and a 7.58-inch internal panel, both based on LTPO technology with refresh rates between 1 and 120Hz and a claimed peak brightness of 4,000 nits. When unfolded, the device measures 5.02mm thick, increasing to 10.68mm when closed, while overall weight is 219 grams. Xiaomi has also redesigned the hinge and uses a double-layer ultra-thin glass structure for the folding display.
Internally, the 18 Fold is the first smartphone to use Xiaomi’s Xring O3, a 3nm processor with a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU. Depending on configuration, it is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. A 6,000mAh battery supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging, while the operating system is Xiaomi’s HyperOS 4.
The rear camera system was developed in collaboration with German company Leica and is centered on a 200-megapixel main camera using a 1/1.56-inch Samsung ISOCELL HP5 sensor. It is joined by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom and an approximately 80mm-equivalent focal length. Xiaomi also provides a 7x, roughly 160mm-equivalent mode derived from the telephoto camera. Two 16-megapixel front cameras are integrated into the external and internal displays. The main camera has a 23mm-equivalent field of view and f/1.7 aperture, while the high-resolution sensor can also provide a 46mm-equivalent 2x crop.
The 18 Fold is available in China in several memory configurations. Prices start at 10,999 yuan (approximately €1,441) for the 12GB/256GB version, rising to 11,999 yuan (about €1,572) for 12GB/512GB, 12,999 yuan (about €1,703) for 16GB/512GB and 14,999 yuan (about €1,965) for 16GB/1TB. A limited 16GB/1TB Ceramic Special Edition costs 15,999 yuan (approximately €2,096). As of late September 2026, Xiaomi has not announced global or European availability.
