Sigma Updates fp Series With New FP2 Camera

Sigma has announced the FP2, a compact full-frame mirrorless camera designed for both photography and video production. The new model succeeds the original Sigma fp, introduced in 2019, retaining its rectangular body and modular construction while introducing a new sensor, improved autofocus and expanded recording capabilities.

At the center of the FP2 is a 24.5-megapixel partially stacked CMOS sensor, replacing the conventional 24.6-megapixel sensor used in the original model. Although resolution remains largely unchanged, the new architecture provides faster readout speeds, reducing rolling shutter distortion and supporting higher continuous shooting rates. The camera can capture up to 20 frames per second using its electronic shutter, with support for 14-bit DNG RAW files and JPEG images.

Autofocus has also been revised, incorporating a hybrid system with AI-assisted subject recognition and tracking for people, dogs, cats and birds. The native ISO range extends from 100 to 102,400, while still photography allows an expanded minimum sensitivity of ISO 6. However, the FP2 continues to rely exclusively on an electronic shutter and does not include in-body image stabilization, two characteristics inherited from its predecessor.

Video recording represents a substantial part of the update: the FP2 supports 6K Open Gate recording, using the full sensor area to capture footage that can subsequently be adapted to different aspect ratios. It also records 6K video at up to 60 frames per second in supported compressed formats, while 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ are available at up to 6K 30p. However, RAW recording requires an external SSD connected through USB-C. The camera additionally supports 4K recording at up to 60p without cropping and up to 120p in crop mode.

Sigma has incorporated L-Log recording, along with monitoring tools such as waveform displays, false color, focus peaking and anamorphic desqueeze. Another addition is support for 32-bit float audio recording when the camera is paired with the optional HU-21 Hot Shoe Unit, reducing the need for precise audio level adjustments during recording.

The FP2 maintains the L-Mount system and a modular design that allows accessories to be attached according to the intended application. Its body measures approximately 112.8 × 69.9 × 41.8mm and weighs 460 grams with a battery and memory card installed. The rear display is now a tilting 3.15-inch touchscreen with approximately 2.1 million dots, replacing the fixed panel of the original fp.

Connectivity includes two USB-C ports, a full-size HDMI connection and a terminal for external microphones or timecode synchronization. The camera also incorporates 70GB of internal storage alongside a UHS-II SD card slot. An optional EVF-21 electronic viewfinder provides a 5.76-million-dot OLED display and can tilt upward by 90 degrees. Other accessories include the HU-21 Hot Shoe Unit and an LCD viewfinder attachment.

The Sigma FP2 will become available on November 11, 2026, priced at $2,199 for the camera body. A kit including the EVF-21 electronic viewfinder will cost $2,749. Both configurations are available for preorder.
