Motorola Teases Signature 27 With New Imaging Technology

Motorola has officially introduced the Signature 27, its latest flagship smartphone, following an initial preview at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in September. The device combines a triple-camera system with a dedicated motion-detection sensor, alongside a new display and updated processing hardware. Its photographic capabilities represent one of the main changes, particularly through the introduction of an Event Vision Sensor designed to assist with high-speed photography.

The main camera uses a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 910 sensor, measuring Type 1/1.28, paired with an f/1.6 lens and optical image stabilization. The sensor incorporates LOFIC technology, which increases the amount of charge that can be stored when photographing bright areas. This is intended to extend dynamic range and preserve highlight information in scenes containing substantial differences between light and shadow.

The second camera uses a 200-megapixel Sony LYTIA 901 sensor with a periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical magnification. The system includes optical image stabilization and supports Motorola’s Super Zoom Pro function, which extends digital magnification up to 100x. However, the higher magnification levels rely on generative AI processing to reconstruct image details, meaning that the resulting textures do not necessarily correspond to information captured directly by the sensor.

The telephoto camera also contributes to portrait photography, with selectable framing options corresponding to 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm focal lengths. These settings combine the available cameras with digital cropping and computational processing to reproduce different portrait compositions.

Completing the conventional rear camera system is a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.0 aperture, autofocus and a 122-degree field of view. Unlike fixed-focus ultrawide modules, its autofocus system allows the focusing distance to be adjusted according to the subject.

The most distinctive addition is a dedicated Event Vision Sensor, or EVS, integrated into the rear camera assembly. Unlike a conventional image sensor, which captures complete frames at regular intervals, an event-based sensor detects changes in light intensity at individual pixels. It therefore records information about movement without continuously capturing entire images.

Motorola uses this information in its Action Shot mode, which is designed to improve the capture of rapidly moving subjects. By analyzing changes in the scene independently of the main imaging sensors, the system can assist with motion detection and image processing.

Video recording is supported at up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second, while 4K recording extends to 120 fps with Dolby Vision. The front-facing camera uses a 50-megapixel sensor with autofocus and also supports 4K video recording.

The Signature 27 incorporates a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo display based on tandem OLED technology, which uses two emissive layers. The panel offers a 1.5K resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Motorola claims a peak brightness of 12,000 nits, although this figure was measured with only 1% of the display illuminated and does not represent sustained full-screen brightness. The display also supports 10-bit color and covers the DCI-P3 color space.

Beyond imaging, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, with configurations offering 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. A 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery supports 90W wired and 50W wireless charging. The device runs Android 17 and is expected to receive seven years of operating system and security updates. Motorola has also announced future compatibility with GrapheneOS, although the implementation and availability details have not yet been confirmed.

The Motorola Signature 27 is scheduled to become commercially available in Europe on November 16, 2026, with a recommended European retail price is €1,899. Two Pantone-developed finishes, Coal Smoke and Capulet Olive, will be available at launch.
