About me

Barima Owusu–Nyantekyi is a Ghanaian-British narrative and street photographer, based between Accra and London. His art has received major recognition, including a British Museum showcase during the 2024 visit by the Asantehene of Ghana's Asante Kingdom, highlighting his role as a key interpreter of Asante culture today. His photography captures Ghana's socio-cultural and architectural heritages, particularly the Asante Kingdom and Tropical Modernist houses in Kumasi, where his family lives. This personal connection helps him tell authentic stories about customs and modernity, and of traditional peoples in contemporary realities. He collaborates with ancestral royals and cultural institutions to ensure respectful representation. He also examines city life in the UK and Europe. Owusu-Nyantekyi creates his visual signatures by pairing vintage manual lenses with digital cameras. This embodies his cultural philosophy, blending classical photography with contemporary style. His career spans fine art photography, commercial work and cultural projects, with a focus on architectural photography and portraiture.
