About me

Hans Franz is a Dutch freelance photographer with a special interest in people and traveling. At the age of 12 he started taking photos with the camera that once was his grandfather’s. In the early 70′s he joined a photoclub and that’s when the bug bit him. In 1990, after an 11 year career as a highschool teacher he made the switch to professional photography. “I try to renew and develop myself as much as I can. My inspiration comes from different sources. There may be a kind of light that turns me on, or I get challenged by the idea of making a series of photos about a subject that I have no particular interest in.” One thing’s for sure: he doesn’t get inspiration from mediocrity. He has a keen eye for the unexpected, and the reflex to capture it. He approaches people frankly. It hardly ever happens that people refuse to be photographed. “I respect people and will not take photos against their will. A good photo opportunity is always close at hand. You don’t have to travel to get inspired. On the other hand; traveling broadens the mind and has convinced me that people are basically the same over the world. I want to show people’s expectations of life, and their vulnerability.”
