7Artisans Releases MF 50mm f/1.2 Manual Prime for APS-C Mirrorless
7Artisans has introduced the MF 50mm f/1.2, a manual-focus prime lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras available for Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Micro Four Thirds mounts. On APS-C systems, the focal length corresponds to an equivalent field of view of approximately 75mm, placing it in the short-telephoto range commonly used for portraits, detail work, and selective framing.
The defining characteristic of the lens is its f/1.2 maximum aperture, which allows increased light transmission in low-light environments and produces a shallow depth of field. The optical design consists of seven elements arranged in five groups, paired with an 11-blade aperture diaphragm intended to maintain relatively smooth out-of-focus rendering.
Autofocus is not included, and all focusing operations are performed manually. The lens in fact features a traditional focusing ring with a marked distance scale, including luminescent engravings intended to remain visible in dim conditions. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7 meters, limiting close-up capability but remaining consistent with typical short-telephoto primes. Exposure control is also handled via a mechanical aperture ring with physical clicks.
From a construction standpoint, the MF 50mm f/1.2 uses a full-metal housing and weighs approximately 410 grams, depending on the mount. The design incorporates a built-in retractable lens hood, reducing the need for external accessories while maintaining a compact profile when retracted. The front filter thread measures 55mm, allowing compatibility with commonly available filters.
