Brightin Star Launches AF 24mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E and Nikon Z
Hong Kong-based company Brightin Star has introduced the AF 24mm f/1.8, a full-frame autofocus wide-angle prime available for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. The lens targets everyday wide-angle use, covering applications such as street photography, travel, environmental portraits, architecture, and low-light shooting, while positioning itself as a compact and comparatively affordable alternative to first-party options.
The lens features a 24mm focal length paired with a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture and a minimum focusing distance of approximately 0.32 meters, allowing close-focus compositions that retain a strong sense of context. Physically, it weighs about 444 grams and measures roughly 75 mm in diameter and 88 mm in length, placing it in the mid-range for fast full-frame wide-angle primes and making it suitable for extended handheld use on mirrorless bodies.
Optically, the AF 24mm f/1.8 uses a construction of 14 elements arranged in 11 groups, incorporating extra-low dispersion and aspherical elements to control distortion, chromatic aberration, and edge softness. The aperture diaphragm consists of 14 blades, a relatively high count at this price level, intended to maintain rounded out-of-focus highlights and smoother background rendering, even when stopped down slightly.
Autofocus is driven by an STM motor designed for quiet operation in both stills and video contexts. Brightin Star states that focus breathing is kept to a minimum, which may be relevant for videographers who need consistent framing during focus pulls. The lens also includes a USB-C port on the barrel, allowing firmware updates to be performed directly without additional accessories.
