Canon Celebrates 30 Years of PowerShot with Limited G7 X Mark III Edition

Canon is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its PowerShot compact camera line with a limited edition of the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III. The commemorative version does not introduce hardware changes but instead presents cosmetic modifications and bundled accessories, and it is scheduled for release in April 2026 in limited quantities.

The PowerShot series was introduced in 1996 with the PowerShot 600 and has since expanded across multiple generations and categories of compact digital cameras. Over three decades, the lineup has included models aimed at casual users as well as more advanced compacts with larger sensors and extended manual controls. The G series, to which the G7 X Mark III belongs, has traditionally represented the higher-end segment of the PowerShot range.

The 30th Anniversary Edition retains the same internal specifications as the standard G7 X Mark III introduced in 2019: it features a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor paired with a DIGIC 8 image processor; the built-in zoom lens covers a full-frame equivalent focal range of 24–100mm with a maximum aperture of f/1.8–2.8; video capabilities include recording up to 4K at 30 frames per second, and the camera includes a dedicated vlog mode; the rear 3.0-inch tilting touchscreen flips upward and downward to accommodate self-recording and low-angle shooting.

Externally, the anniversary version is distinguished by a graphite-colored top plate, a revised diamond-pattern knurling on the front control ring, and a “30th Anniversary” marking on the pop-up flash housing. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, USB-C, and HDMI, and the camera uses SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory cards with UHS-I support. Power is supplied by the NB-13L battery, although some regional reports indicate a transition to a revised NB-15L unit with updated charging safeguards.

In the United States, the anniversary model will be sold as a kit priced at $1,299, with the package including a limited-edition Peak Design Cuff wrist strap and a 32GB SD card. This represents a substantial premium over the standard version, which originally launched at $749 in 2019 and currently retails at lower prices when available. In other markets, pricing varies, and bundled accessories may differ.

Canon has not disclosed the total production volume of the anniversary edition, describing it only as limited. Distribution strategies may vary by region, with some markets reportedly implementing lottery systems for direct sales. The release occurs amid renewed demand for compact cameras, particularly models with strong video capabilities and compact form factors.
