Chiopt Releases Full-Frame AURA Super Speed Prime Lens Set
Chinese manufacturer Chiopt has introduced the AURA Super Speed Prime series, a set of full-frame cinema lenses comprising five focal lengths: 16mm (T2.2), 24mm (T1.5), 35mm (T1.5), 50mm (T1.5) and 85mm (T1.5).
The AURA series lenses are compatible with a wide range of camera systems: the Sony E-mount versions can be used on hybrid mirrorless cameras such as the Sony FX30, FX3, FX6, FX9 and BURANO; compatibility with the DJI Ronin 4D is also supported via the DJI Zenmuse X9 Lens Mount Unit (E-Mount); Nikon Z-mount cameras, including the Z9 and RED KOMODO, can utilize the lenses via appropriate adapters.
Lens weights range from 790g to 921g, depending on focal length, and their lengths vary between 107mm and 120mm. The optical design is claimed to emphasize minimal distortion, low chromatic aberration, low focus breathing and a smooth bokeh rendering. Focus distance markings are provided in meters on the operator’s side and in feet on the reverse, with iris markings following the same layout.
The front diameters are consistent at 74mm for all lenses except the 16mm, which measures 88mm. The 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm lenses accept 72mm screw-in filters, while the 16mm does not support threaded filters. Minimum focus distances range from 25cm on the 16mm to 91cm on the 85mm.
Shown as prototypes at NAB 2025, the lenses are now available for purchase, sold either individually at a price of $899 USD per lens or as a complete five-lens kit for $4,499 USD. The full set includes an aluminum alloy hard case.
