Freewell Launches Real Lens Hood for Fixed-Lens Cameras

Freewell Gear has introduced the Real Lens Hood, a lens accessory designed for fixed-lens compact cameras including the Fujifilm X100VI, Leica Q3 43, Fujifilm GFX100RF and Ricoh GR III/GR IIIx, attaching directly to the camera’s built-in lens and supporting standard 49mm screw-in filters. Its construction is based on CNC-machined aluminum and includes a flip-down design that provides quick access to filters without removing the hood.

“The Real Lens Hood was developed to simplify the workflow of photographers using fixed-lens compact cameras,” says Harry Gwalani, CEO of Freewell Gear. “It combines elegance and efficiency — giving creators instant control without compromising the shooting experience.”

One of the primary functions of the Real Lens Hood is to simplify filter use, particularly when working with circular polarizers. A rotating mechanism integrated into the hood allows photographers to adjust filters externally, eliminating the need to reach inside the hood and touch the glass: each version of the Real Lens Hood indeed is slightly adapted to match the specifications of the compatible camera model. All versions feature a flip-to-access design, an NFC-enabled lens cap for accessing digital manuals and support and a metal body for durability. A silver variant is available for the Fujifilm GFX100RF to match its corresponding camera finish.

The Real Lens Hood is offered at different price points depending on the model. The Ricoh GR III/GR IIIx version is priced at $100, while the Fujifilm X100VI version costs $70. The Leica Q3 43 and Fujifilm GFX100RF versions are priced at $130 and include a hybrid filter that combines a circular polarizer and a black mist element.
