Fujifilm Announces Instax Mini Link+ Smartphone Printer
Fujifilm has announced the instax mini Link+, a new smartphone printer positioned above the existing models in the instax mini Link lineup. It introduces a revised industrial design and expanded software features that focus primarily on layout control, text rendering, and preview functionality rather than changes to the core printing process.
“One of our favorite things about the instax mini Link™ series of smartphone printers is the breadth of options it delivers to creators,” said Shin Udono, Senior Vice President, Imaging Solutions, FUJIFILM Europe. “Users being able to print images from their smartphone’s camera roll has brought the joy of instant photography and the analog film experience to so many. With the introduction of mini Link+, we’re especially excited because the features will allow them to take their creativity and self-expression even further.”
The instax mini Link+ prints images directly from a smartphone via the instax mini Link mobile application: as with previous models, users can select photos stored on their device and output them onto instax mini instant film. The updated app also integrates new features, such printing images sourced from Pinterest, reflecting a continued emphasis on integration with mobile content platforms; selecting and printing multiple images in sequence, up to ten at a time, as well as combining several photos into a single collage print, within the constraints of the small instax mini format. Another carried-over function is Video Print, which enables users to extract a single frame from a smartphone video clip and print it as a still image.
In addition to basic photo printing, the Link+ introduces a Design Print mode, which allows users to add text, illustrations, frames, and stickers to images before printing. A new Simulation mode also allows users to preview how a print might appear in a physical setting, such as on a wall or tabletop, before committing to output. Moreover, Fujifilm states that internal image processing has been adjusted to better reproduce fine text and graphic elements, an area where instant printers have traditionally been limited.
From a hardware perspective, the instax mini Link+ does not significantly alter the underlying printing mechanism but adopts a different exterior design. Compared to earlier Link models with rounded edges, the new printer features a more angular shape and a subdued black finish with an orange accent. It remains compact and portable and includes a strap attachment point for carrying. As mentioned, most functional differences between the Link+ and previous models are dependent on the updated app, which is not exclusive to this printer.
In Japan, the instax mini Link+ is launching alongside optional accessories, including a protective case and a display frame for instax mini prints. Fujifilm has confirmed pricing for North America, where the printer is set to retail for $169.95 in the United States and $189.99 in Canada. Availability is expected in early February, though international rollout details beyond North America and Japan have not been fully clarified.
