GoPro Unveils Lit Hero Camera with LED Light
GoPro has unveiled the Lit Hero, a compact lifestyle-oriented action camera that incorporates a built-in LED light. The device was announced alongside the Max2 360-degree camera and the Fluid Pro AI gimbal, and it represents an alternative to the company’s traditional Hero lineup, with an emphasis on portability and quick, casual use.
At first glance, the Lit Hero resembles recent Hero models, but it lacks a front-facing display. Instead, it features a LED array designed to provide additional light for both stills and video, which offers three brightness levels and comes with a diffuser. This design eliminates the ability to preview framing from the front, though a rear touchscreen remains available.
The camera is built around a Type 1/2.8 sensor capable of producing 12-megapixel still images and 4K video at up to 60 frames per second, with a maximum bitrate of 60 Mbps. A 4:3 capture mode is included, allowing footage to be reframed in a vertical aspect ratio for social platforms. Compared to the higher-end Hero13 Black, which uses a larger 1/1.9 sensor and offers higher resolution, the Lit Hero positions itself as a more compact and limited alternative.
The lens is a fixed 15mm equivalent f/2.3, with a 165° field of view, but a SuperView digital mode can be applied through the Quik app to maximize the ultra-wide effect. The same app also provides HyperSmooth stabilization, editing tools, and cloud upload options.
The Lit Hero integrates GoPro’s Enduro battery, which the company specifies as capable of recording more than 100 minutes of continuous 4K60 footage. The device is waterproof without housing to a depth of 5 meters. Its front lens cover is replaceable, with a hydrophobic coating to prevent water droplets from obstructing the frame.
Physically, the Lit Hero measures 57 × 48.4 mm and weighs 93 g. It supports mounting through integrated folding fingers, magnetic mounting, and a standard 1/4-20 thread. In total, it remains compatible with more than 35 GoPro accessories.
