Landon Nordeman: Last Night
Leica Gallery New York is proud to present LAST NIGHT, a solo exhibition by acclaimed photographer Landon Nordeman, on view now through July 27, 2025.
Shot over the course of a decade, LAST NIGHT is an instinctive, flash-lit exploration of contemporary social performance—captured from inside the rarefied world of exclusive parties. With a visual language defined by bold color, theatrical framing, and surreal timing, Nordeman reveals the humor, strangeness, and spectacle of these scenes, where socialites and celebrities gather to celebrate the most beautiful thing in the room: themselves.
Working up close and within the crowd, Nordeman uses his camera and flash to make unexpected images of subjects well-versed in performance. The results are both abstract and deeply human. Drawn to the interplay of fashion and flesh, shadow and color, he uncovers moments of honesty in an environment built on illusion.
Rather than seeking to flatter, Nordeman aims to reveal—to find something surprising amid the surface. Like William Eggleston, he describes himself as being “at war with the obvious.” His photographs don’t offer answers—they raise questions.
A friend once described the look on Nordeman’s face while shooting a party as “ferocious glee.” He recognized the feeling instantly: “There’s something about the unresolved, comic, and at times bizarre tenor of human interaction at parties that compels me to photograph. Certain visual ingredients draw my eye—the juxtapositions, the gestures—but mostly, I follow instinct. I know what I’m looking for only when I see it.”
LAST NIGHT is both a record and a reflection of a world on the edge—of what, exactly, remains unclear. Collapse? Transcendence? Nordeman’s work invites us to consider: are we fiddling while the world burns, or laughing in the face of oblivion? And in the end, is there really a difference?
