Leica just released the M11-P Safari camera, its latest addition to the longstanding Safari Edition camera series, which began in the 1970s. Known for their distinctive olive-green color schemes, these models combine rugged aesthetics with high-performance features. The M11-P Safari continues this tradition with a matte olive-green finish, a matching olive-green leatherette, and silver-colored dials and controls. Instead of Leica’s traditional red dot logo, the camera features a silver screw. The top plate is made of solid brass, and engravings on the body include “Leica Camera AG” and “Wetzlar, Germany”.

While the exterior design is unique, the internal specifications of the M11-P Safari are identical to the standard M11-P. The camera includes 256GB of internal memory, a UHS-II SD card slot, a 60-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, and Leica’s Maestro III image processor. It supports 14-bit DNG recording and features Triple Resolution Technology, allowing users to capture images at 60, 36, or 18 megapixels. This capability enhances the use of Leica’s extensive M-mount lens range. The camera also includes a 2.95-inch rear touchscreen, an electronically controlled focal plane shutter, and a continuous shooting rate of up to 4.5 frames per second. ISO sensitivity ranges from 50 to 50,000.

A notable feature is the integration of Content Credentials technology, which embeds tamper-proof metadata into each image. This addition aims to enhance digital image authenticity and traceability, positioning the M11-P Safari as possibly the first camera to incorporate this system.

The Leica M11-P Safari is available through Leica Stores and authorized retailers for $10,495. This price reflects a $655 premium over the standard M11-P, whose cost recently increased due to tariff-related adjustments. In addition to the camera, the Safari Edition includes a special edition carrying strap. The production volume has not been publicly disclosed, but past Safari Editions have often become sought-after collector’s items due to their limited availability and unique design.
