Manual Launches Holo Digital Camera

Manual, a New York City–based photography and lifestyle company, has introduced the Holo, a point-and-shoot digital camera distinguished by its translucent design inspired by Y2K aesthetics. The release marks a departure from the brand’s established identity, which has been primarily centered on analog products such as disposable and reusable film cameras, 35mm film, and development services.

The Holo is available in four translucent color options—clear, green, pink, and blue—and weighs roughly 490 grams depending on configuration. Despite its playful appearance, the camera offers a set of standard digital features: it includes a 50-megapixel sensor, though its dimensions and detailed specifications remain undisclosed. Product images suggest the presence of a built-in zoom lens with a 4–22.2mm focal range, likely corresponding to an approximate 24mm equivalent at its widest setting. A built-in LED flash, rather than the traditional xenon type, provides illumination in low-light conditions.

The camera captures still images in JPEG format and records video up to 1080p. Other features include a 16× digital zoom, basic anti-shake stabilization, and a rear 2.8-inch LCD screen. Storage relies on microSD cards, and a 32GB card is included in the package. Charging is handled via USB-C, and each unit ships with a card reader, wrist strap and dust bag.

The Holo is designed less around technical performance and more around an aesthetic and experiential approach to digital photography: the transparent casing directly references consumer electronics from the early 2000s, such as translucent gaming consoles and computers, aligning with a wider resurgence of nostalgia-driven design in contemporary devices.

Manual’s founder, Malcolm Dia, described the camera as a tool intended for casual use and collective experiences rather than precise image-making, reflecting a broader cultural trend among younger users who value imperfection and immediacy.

The camera is available now through Manual’s official channels in all four translucent color variations for $95.
