Panasonic Releases Lumix S 24-60mm f/2.8 Lens
The Panasonic Lumix S 24-60mm f/2.8 is a newly introduced standard zoom lens for L-mount full-frame cameras. Weighing 544 grams and measuring approximately 99.9mm in length, it offers a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout its zoom range, making it an appealing alternative to larger options like the Lumix S Pro 24-70mm f/2.8. By limiting the telephoto end to 60mm instead of the typical 70mm, Panasonic has intended creating a more compact and lightweight lens without sacrificing optical performance.
The lens is built with 14 elements in 12 groups, including three aspherical elements, one Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion (UED) lens, and two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements. Its nine-blade diaphragm allows for smooth bokeh, while the aperture ranges from f/2.8 to f/22. A 77mm front filter thread and a weather-sealed construction further add to its practicality in various shooting conditions.
Autofocus performance is powered by a Dual Phase Linear Motor and an advanced optical encoder, enabling high-speed and high-precision focusing. It can focus as close as 19cm at focal lengths between 24mm and 30mm, achieving a maximum magnification of 0.3x. For added flexibility, the lens includes a customizable control ring—marking a first for Panasonic’s S-series lenses—which can be used for functions like aperture or exposure compensation. A programmable focus button is also located on the barrel for quick access to shooting features.
Video creators will benefit from the lens’s optimized internal barrel structure, which suppresses focus breathing, as well as its micro-step aperture control that ensures smooth exposure transitions during filming. Furthermore, when paired with compatible Panasonic cameras, the Hybrid Zoom feature enables an extended range up to 187mm by combining optical and crop zoom, maintaining wide-angle framing at the 24mm end.
The Panasonic Lumix S 24-60mm f/2.8 lens is set to be available in late June 2025 for $899.
