Rollei Announces Powerflex X8 Dual Lens Compact Camera
Rollei has introduced the Powerflex X8, a dual-lens compact digital camera featuring two imaging modules: a primary lens with 8x optical zoom and a secondary wide-angle lens located on the rear, intended for selfies.
The main image sensor is a 1/2.8-inch CMOS unit with a diagonal of 6.43 mm, paired with a lens offering a 35mm-equivalent focal range of 38–310 mm and a variable aperture between f/1.8 and f/2.6. The German company claims that the sensor supports a maximum image resolution of 64 megapixels, although such figures in compact cameras often rely on software interpolation. The selfie camera, located where an electronic viewfinder might otherwise be placed, employs a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor, whose exact resolution has not been disclosed, and a 3.37mm f/2.2 lens.
Video capabilities include 5K recording at 25 frames per second, 4K at 30 fps and Full HD up to 60 fps. The camera supports time-lapse, slow-motion and night video modes. Still photography modes include standard, portrait, landscape, filter and night. There is also a built-in flash, which is atypically positioned near the front of the lens.
Internally, the camera uses a HiSilicon H3519DV500 chip and supports JPEG stills and MP4 video files with H.265 compression. It is powered by a 1,350 mAh NP-60 lithium-polymer battery and features a USB-C port for charging, a mini HDMI port, a microphone input, a hot shoe and a standard 1/4-inch tripod mount. The storage medium is a microSD card, Class 10/U3, with a capacity of up to 64 GB. No support for RAW image capture has been mentioned.
The Powerflex X8 follows a conventional SLR-style design and includes a fixed 3.6-inch IPS touchscreen on the back. It measures 126 x 84 x 73 mm and weighs 383 grams, excluding the battery. Its construction includes plastic, aluminum and glass components. While its feature set might suggest flexibility, its compact sensor size and likely outsourced manufacturing origins align it with many budget-oriented digital cameras currently available through online retailers. Although it bears the Rollei name, the Powerflex X8 appears to be the product of a licensing arrangement rather than a continuation of the company’s historical engineering practices.
The Rollei Powerflex X8 Dual Lens camera is priced at €299 in Europe, with currently no official indication of international availability.
