Chinese company SmallRig has introduced a new NP-F970-format battery designed to operate in extremely low temperatures. The model is specified to discharge at temperatures down to –40°C without the need for external heating solutions, addressing a known limitation of conventional lithium-ion batteries, which typically experience reduced capacity and faster voltage drop in cold environments.

The battery follows the widely used Sony NP-F970 form factor, commonly employed to power on-camera monitors, LED lights, wireless transmitters, and other accessories. In addition to the standard NP-F interface, the unit integrates both USB-C and USB-A ports, allowing it to function as a standalone power bank: the USB-C port supports bidirectional operation, enabling both charging and power output, while the USB-A port provides output only. The two output circuits operate independently, with a combined maximum output of 54W when charging multiple devices simultaneously.

The battery has a rated capacity of 7,500mAh at 7.2V, equivalent to 54Wh. Such capacity is lower than some standard NP-F970 models, reflecting the trade-offs associated with cell chemistry optimized for cold-weather performance. Charging is supported through a 36W USB-C Power Delivery input, with a stated full recharge time of approximately two hours when used with a compatible charger.

An integrated OLED display provides real-time information on remaining battery percentage, accessed via touch controls on the housing. The unit incorporates an internal battery management system designed to monitor and protect against overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuit, and temperature-related issues. The casing maintains compatibility with existing NP-F battery plates and accessories.
