Sony Unveils New Wireless Grip and Remote Commander
Sony has recently introduced the GP-VPT3, a new wireless shooting grip and tripod, along with the detachable RMT-VP2 Wireless Remote Commander. Designed for selected Alpha and Vlog camera models, the accessories offer greater flexibility for handheld shooting, remote control and compact tripod use, all via Bluetooth connection.
An upgrade to the earlier GP-VPT2BT model, the GP-VPT3 supports cameras and lenses with a combined weight of up to 1.5 kilograms. It features an updated design that facilitates one-handed control of key camera functions—such as zoom, focus and recording—while also allowing smooth transitions between selfie-style and outward-facing shooting thanks to a 360-degree swiveling head and tilt range of +80° to -90°. When unfolded, the grip transforms into a mini tripod suited for stable shots such as group photos, time-lapses and low-light scenes.
The included RMT-VP2 remote commander, which is also available separately, connects to compatible Sony cameras and Xperia smartphones via Bluetooth. It provides a wireless range of up to 10 meters and features physical controls for shutter release, video recording, autofocus activation, zoom/focus adjustment and a customizable C1 button. It also includes a lock switch and a LED indicator to display connection status. While the remote ships in black as a standalone product, the white version is only available bundled with the white grip.
The GP-VPT3 and RMT-VP2 are both weather-sealed and designed for cable-free operation, helping maintain dust and moisture resistance when connected to a camera. The grip is ergonomically built for comfort and ease of use with either hand, making it a useful tool for creators working in a variety of settings.
Sony already began shipping the GP-VPT3, priced at $159.99 in the US and $219.99 in Canada. The RMT-VP2 remote commander is also available separately for $89.99 USD or $124.99 CAD.
