SWIT Introduces PowerCell Batteries with USB-C Charging

After being previewed at IBC 2025, SWIT’s PowerCell slot-in camera batteries have now entered global distribution. The series is positioned as a third-party alternative to original manufacturer batteries for mirrorless and cinema-style cameras from Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm, combining standard form factors with updated charging options and lower pricing.

The market for replacement camera batteries has traditionally been divided between high-cost original batteries and inexpensive third-party options that often compromise on consistency, communication accuracy, or thermal stability. SWIT, a Chinese company with a background in broadcast and professional power systems, is attempting to bridge that gap by applying established engineering practices to consumer-level battery formats.

Each PowerCell unit uses Panasonic NCR1850 lithium-ion cells rated at 7.2 volts with a capacity of 2200 mAh, corresponding to 16 Wh. According to SWIT, the discharge characteristics are designed to mirror those of original batteries, allowing supported cameras to display remaining runtime information accurately rather than relying on estimated or generic readings. The batteries are fully compatible with in-camera charging systems and original manufacturer chargers. A four-level LED indicator built into the housing provides a quick visual check of remaining charge without inserting the battery into a camera.

A notable addition compared to most original batteries is integrated USB-C charging. Each PowerCell can be charged directly from common USB-C power sources, including wall adapters, power banks, laptop ports, and vehicle chargers. Thermal management circuitry is built into the charging system to limit heat buildup during charging, thus reducing the need for dedicated multi-slot chargers and aligns more closely with how larger V-mount or Gold-mount batteries are commonly managed in professional environments.

At launch, the PowerCell range covers four widely used battery types. The Sony NP-FZ100 version supports cameras including the FX3, FX30, and multiple Alpha series bodies. Canon users are served by an LP-E6P-type model compatible with a broad range of EOS R, DSLR, and select cinema cameras. Nikon’s EN-EL15c format is available for Z-series mirrorless bodies and supported DSLRs, while Fujifilm users can choose an NP-W235 version for X-series and GFX cameras. SWIT has indicated that additional battery formats, including options for Panasonic cameras, are under development.

The PowerCell batteries are now available through authorized retailers worldwide, with suggested retail prices ranging from approximately $35 to $49 depending on the battery type.
