Yashica Teases Tank Compact Camera
Japanese company Yashica has introduced the Tank, a compact digital camera designed around portability and simplified operation. The device combines a lightweight body with a fixed lens and a small image sensor, placing it in the category of entry-level point-and-shoot cameras intended for casual photography.
The camera uses a 12-megapixel 1/2.8-inch CMOS sensor, that allows images to be recorded at 12 megapixels, while higher output resolutions of 24 megapixels and 36 megapixels are also available through internal upscaling. Sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 in photo mode, with an automatic ISO option. Exposure compensation can be adjusted within a ±3 EV range, and several white balance presets are provided, including daylight, cloudy, tungsten, and fluorescent settings. The camera also includes a selection of digital filters that can be applied directly during capture.
The built-in lens is a small autofocus prime with an aperture around f/1.8 and a focal length of approximately 4 mm. The focus range extends from about 0.1 meters to infinity, allowing the camera to capture both close subjects and distant scenes without additional optics. Digital zoom up to 8× is available, although it relies on cropping rather than optical magnification. Several metering modes are included, such as central, matrix, average, and single-point measurement.
Video recording is supported in multiple formats, including 4K at 30 frames per second and Full HD at up to 60 frames per second. Video files are saved in MP4 format. Audio playback and review are handled through an integrated speaker.
The camera includes a 3-inch LCD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 360 × 640 pixels that can rotate 180 degrees, allowing front-facing framing for selfies or video recording. The display can also be angled for shooting from high or low viewpoints. It also features built-in LED light can operate as a flash during photography or as a continuous light source while recording video.

The Tank is designed to be small enough for everyday carry: the body measures roughly 12 × 2 × 5.5 centimeters and weighs approximately 125 grams. Storage is handled through microSD cards with capacities ranging from 8 GB to 256 GB, and charging and data transfer are performed through a USB-C connection. The camera is powered by a BL-5B lithium battery with a capacity of 800 mAh.
The Yashica Tank is offered in several color variants, including black, brown, blue, and pink and is available for preorder at a price of approximately $100, with shipping expected to begin in late March.
