I am a photographer living in the San Francisco Bay Area, focusing on Street Photography. In my teens, I developed a passion for black and white photography and was recognized in a number of nation-wide scholastic competitions with awards, showings and publications. In college at the University of Texas at Austin I studied another passion of mine, Biological Science, which I further pursued in graduate and postgraduate work at UCLA, and UC Berkeley, and professionally for many years. I maintained an interest in Photography. In my college days in Austin, I encountered Gary Winogrand, who came the University of Texas as visiting professor and became a common presence on the main campus drag photographing the lively street life. Curious about his Art and methods, I sometimes shadowed him as he worked. Through this, I discovered the excitement and sense of flow in capturing images of people on the street and and the joy of processing such images, rich in split second twists and turns. My photographic interests were transformed. Later, attending graduate school at UCLA, I again encountered Gary Winogrand photographing on the streets of Westwood Village. He had moved to Los Angles, and I was able to spend some time with him, share some of my work, and learn further. More recently, I have given new life to my passion for Street Photography. The advancement of digital photography made this exploration more practical than my earlier endeavors with film and darkroom work. I love photographing people navigating the city, using strong lighting, and other compositional elements to capture their emotions and beauty and the unique character of the Bay Area. Using sharp, wide-eyed observation, skillful photographic capture and presentation, I seek to enliven what might be be dismissed as the ordinary.
