Peak Design Unveils New Pro Tripods

Peak Design has introduced a new line of tripods designed in collaboration with photographer and filmmaker Jimmy Chin. The line includes three models—the Pro Lite, Pro and Pro Tall—each constructed primarily from carbon fiber. Unlike the company’s existing Travel Tripod, which these models are meant to complement rather than replace, the Pro line is not classified as a “travel” tripod, but tries to expand the American company’s offerings by focusing on increased performance and user adaptability.

As an example of the new approach, the new tripods feature added size and weight, counterbalanced by significant improvements in stability and build quality: the Pro Tall model reaches a maximum height of 197.4 cm and, like the Pro, supports loads up to 18.1 kg while the Pro Lite, slightly smaller and lighter, accommodates up to 15.9 kg.

Furthermore, all models share a reengineered structural design. The center hub is fully CNC-machined, the leg sections are thicker and reduced in number from five to four, and the cam locks have been reinforced for easier, smoother operation. The tripods can be disassembled for maintenance using a hex tool that is now stored inside the center column, replacing the phone mount that shipped with earlier models. The center column itself allows for 15 degrees of tilt, even when fully collapsed.

A notable change is the redesigned ball head, which introduces fluid panning and a new locking system. The Arca-Swiss compatible head also features a spring-loaded quick-release mechanism. A lever replaces the previous manual lock, automatically securing the camera when engaged. The bubble level is now integrated into this lever, making it easier to view when a camera is mounted. The ball head can also be paired with an optional accessory called the Tilt Mod, which adds a fluid tilting mechanism and an adjustable handle for pan-and-tilt video movements. The Tilt Mod is compact and includes a carrying case, though its magnetic attachment may be insufficiently secure during transit without the case.

Additional accessories include a Pro Leveling Base for use with third-party heads and spiked feet for use on uneven terrain. The Pro series also comes with an upgraded carrying sleeve featuring improved padding, weatherproof materials and a redesigned adjustable strap.

The tripods are currently available for pre-order through Kickstarter, with delivery projected for October 2025 for early backers and February 2026 for general release. Pricing at launch is set at $799 for the Pro Lite, $899 for the Pro and $999 for the Pro Tall. Accessories are priced separately: the Tilt Mod at $149, the Leveling Base at $129, and the spiked feet at $49 or $44 depending on the model.
