Rollei Reveals AF 24mm and 35mm f/1.8 Primes

Rollei has expanded its autofocus lens lineup with the announcement of two new full-frame prime lenses, the AF 24mm f/1.8 and the AF 35mm f/1.8, available for Sony FE and Nikon Z mirrorless mounts. The two lenses join the previously released AF 85mm f/1.8, completing a trio that covers wide-angle, standard, and short telephoto focal lengths.

The new lenses were formally announced in January 2026, following a brief teaser campaign by the company. While branded as Rollei products, both optics are based on existing autofocus designs from 7Artisans, a Chinese manufacturer with which Rollei has an established but not fully detailed relationship. As with other recent Rollei lenses, the company’s role appears to focus on branding, firmware integration, and distribution rather than original optical development.

The AF 24mm f/1.8 is a full-frame wide-angle prime built around an optical design of 14 elements arranged in 11 groups. The construction includes aspherical, extra-low dispersion, and high-refractive-index elements intended to control aberrations across the frame. The lens offers a maximum aperture of f/1.8, stopping down to f/16, and uses an 11-blade diaphragm. On full-frame cameras, it provides an angle of view of approximately 84 degrees. Minimum focusing distance is 0.32 meters, allowing for relatively close wide-angle compositions.

Autofocus is driven by a stepping motor, supporting face and eye detection on compatible Sony and Nikon camera bodies. The lens also uses an internal focusing mechanism, meaning its physical length remains constant and the front element does not rotate. Electronic contacts enable EXIF data transmission, in-camera corrections, and firmware updates via a built-in USB-C port. Depending on the mount, aperture control is handled either via an aperture ring or through the camera body.

The AF 35mm f/1.8 instead covers a more conventional standard focal length and is designed for general-purpose photography. Its optical formula consists of 11 elements in eight groups, again featuring aspherical and special glass elements. Like the 24mm lens, it offers an f/1.8 maximum aperture, an 11-blade diaphragm, and autofocus powered by an STM motor. Minimum focusing distance is 0.4 meters. The lens includes an AF/MF switch, a customizable function button, and a USB-C port for firmware updates, with physical controls varying slightly between mounts.

Both lenses feature all-metal housings and share a 62mm filter thread. The AF 24mm f/1.8 weighs approximately 477 grams for Sony E-mount and 483 grams for Nikon Z, while the AF 35mm f/1.8 weighs around 476 grams. Dimensions place them on the larger and heavier side compared to some competing f/1.8 primes, with lengths close to 9 centimeters and a maximum diameter of about 80 millimeters. Neither lens includes optical image stabilization or weather sealing.

The Rollei AF 24mm f/1.8 and AF 35mm f/1.8 are currently available for Sony FE and Nikon Z mounts with a listed price of approximately $325 or €299 at launch, depending on region and retailer.
