Viltrox Announces Vintage Z2 TTL Flash
Viltrox has introduced the Vintage Z2, a compact on-camera flash that combines a retro-inspired design with a simplified feature set. The unit is positioned as a lightweight lighting accessory for general photography rather than a high-output solution for professional use.
The flash weighs approximately 52 grams and features a foldable construction: when deployed, the flash head is raised above the camera body, helping reduce shadows caused by low mounting positions; when not in use instead, it folds down to minimize its size for transport and storage.
The Z2 supports both TTL (through-the-lens) automatic exposure and manual operation. Dedicated versions are available for different camera systems, including Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, and Canon, with TTL functionality matched to each respective system. In manual mode, output can be adjusted across five power levels, ranging from full power to 1/16.
Maximum output is rated at 10 watt-seconds, with a guide number of approximately 6, placing the flash in a lower power category, suitable primarily for close-range subjects or supplementary lighting. Recycle time is approximately two seconds at full output, which limits its use in continuous shooting scenarios.
Additional specifications include a color temperature of approximately 6500K and a flash duration ranging from 1/16,500 to 1/50,000 of a second. A built-in sleep function activates after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
The unit is powered by an internal 420mAh rechargeable battery, charged via USB-C. A full charge is rated for up to 700 flashes at maximum power, with a charging time of around 70 minutes. The flash also includes a basic diffuser attachment intended to soften light output during use.
The Viltrox Vintage Z2 TTL flash is available at a price of around $35–$37, depending on the market. Shipping availability varies by region, with initial units expected to ship toward the end of March.
