Kathryn Rodrigues: Homesick
What does it mean to truly belong somewhere? That question lies at the heart of Homesick, the latest solo exhibition by Perspective Gallery artist Kathryn Rodrigues, on view from June 4 through June 26, 2026.
Through performative self-portraiture, Rodrigues stakes out a deeply feminist territory, one in which claiming space, redrawing boundaries, and reimagining belonging become acts of both resistance and tenderness. The work draws on a sharp personal tension: a multinational, transient childhood set against the quiet rhythms of raising a family in a Chicago suburb.
Developed over more than five years, the photographs move across a wide emotional range, dark humor, maternal frustration, longing, and hope, holding comfort and discomfort in the same frame. Domesticity here is neither idealized nor condemned, but honestly examined as both shelter and cage.
“My work examines how we emotionally negotiate the spaces we inhabit, and how identity is formed within, and often against, the structures that shape our lives,” Rodrigues writes.
At its core, Homesick is a celebration: of the small, hard-won moments of rootedness that Rodrigues has spent a lifetime searching for.
