Glyph Unveils the Atom EX80 USB4 Portable SSD
Glyph, a storage manufacturer based in upstate New York, has announced the Atom EX80, a portable NVMe SSD using the USB4 interface at 80Gbps. The drive was unveiled at Computex 2026 alongside a new high-performance USB-C cable developed to complement it.
The Atom EX80 is rated for sequential transfer speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s, and is stated by the company to be able to maintain consistent read and write performance during extended transfers through what the Glyph calls SteadyIO technology — a feature aimed at preventing the speed degradation that can affect consumer-grade NVMe drives under sustained load. The drive is available in capacities of 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB.
The physical design includes an integrated magnetic mounting system compatible with MagSafe accessories, allowing the drive to be attached to a device, camera rig, or workstation surface during use. The Atom EX80 also incorporates location tracking, which enables the drive to be located via a connected device when traveling or working across multiple locations. The USB4 Type-C port is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 5, 4, and 3.
Alongside the drive, Glyph is releasing the Connect+ USB4 80Gbps SteadyIO USB-C cable, a braided cable rated for 80Gbps data transfer and 240 watts of power delivery. USB-C cables capable of handling both high data throughput and high wattage simultaneously are not common in the general market, and Glyph positions the Connect+ as a single cable intended to cover all USB-C use cases without compromises.
The Atom EX80 is available now. Pricing starts at $499.99 for the 1TB version, with the 2TB at $699.99, the 4TB at $1,099.99, and the 8TB at $2,199.99.
