Yashica Launches the Crew Compact Camera

Yashica has announced the Crew, a compact digital camera positioned around social and group photography. Like the Y16 released the previous month, the Crew is sold under the Yashica name by the Hong Kong-based company 100 Enterprises, which licenses and distributes the brand; the original Yashica ceased operations as an independent entity years ago, and who manufactures the Crew has not been confirmed.

The camera uses a 13-megapixel Type 1/3.06 sensor — a format substantially smaller than what is found in current smartphone main cameras, let alone dedicated compacts from a decade ago — behind a retracting zoom lens with a 32–183mm equivalent range at f/3.1–6.4. The combination of a small sensor and a slow variable aperture will limit performance to conditions with adequate light; a built-in flash is present, though Yashica has not confirmed whether it uses a Xenon tube or an LED. Video recording reaches 2.7K at 60fps, with a software upscaling option to 4K. Still images can be processed to 36 megapixels through interpolation, though the native sensor output remains 13 megapixels. Seven color filters are available in-camera.

The Crew’s defining physical feature is a 3.0-inch flip-up LCD in a 16:9 aspect ratio, which Yashica positions as a quick-access selfie screen for group photography. The claim is somewhat at odds with the lens specification: at its widest 32mm equivalent setting, fitting a group of more than two or three people in the frame requires considerable distance between camera and subjects. The body itself is 26mm thick when powered off and weighs 126 grams, making it genuinely pocketable. A removable battery and USB-C charging are included.

The Yashica Crew is available from around October 26, 2026, in black and silver, at $168 for the standard version and $178 in a bundle with a 32GB microSD card.
