Astera Reveales QuikPunch LED Fresnel Fixture
German company Astera has introduced the QuikPunch, a new battery-powered LED PAR spotlight featuring a 5-inch Fresnel lens. Building on the design of the smaller QuikSpot with a 3-inch lens, the QuikPunch offers greater brightness, improved beam control and a larger form factor.
The QuikPunch is designed to deliver either a sharp, high-intensity beam suitable for spotlight applications or a soft, wide wash for illuminating large areas. With an output of 8,000 lux at three meters while consuming 75 watts, it delivers light comparable to that of a traditional 650-watt tungsten Fresnel, making it Astera’s most energy-efficient spotlight to date. Its internal battery supports up to 4.5 hours of continuous operation at full power, and even longer when operated at reduced output levels.
Powered by the Astera Titan LED Engine and utilizing RGBMA color science with OutputGain control, the fixture offers a motor-free zoom range from 13° to 60°. When fitted with the optional EdgeSoftener filter, the QuikPunch can mimic the softer edges of traditional tungsten Fresnels, useful for achieving a subtle frost effect or a smoother background transition on camera.
Additional light-shaping control is provided by integrated barndoors, which maintain beam precision even at wider angles like 45°. The fixture includes Astera’s QuikTurn mechanism, a barrel-based zoom system that allows for fast and precise beam angle adjustment with a simple twist. A mechanical stop at 30° gives users a tactile reference point for mid-range settings, making it easier to repeat adjustments under low-light conditions.
The fixture is designed for versatile deployment, whether mounted in trusses, placed on a tripod for backlighting, or used on the ground as an uplight. Its removable yoke includes foldable feet and an airline track, enabling mounting on various surfaces or grids. A built-in KickStand allows for uplighting without the yoke, while a 3/8-inch rear thread enables attachment using baby pins or compact clamps.
Astera also offers a range of hardware and accessories to extend the utility of the QuikPunch. The TrackSpigot 28/16, compatible with AirlineTrack systems, allows users to quickly switch between 28mm pins and 16mm receivers when using the fixture’s removable yoke. The TrackPin Compact enables extremely low rigging and smooth pan control, while FlexCovers help the fixture blend into different environments.
For precise aiming, the fixture includes a TiltMeter function that displays tilt angle data on the OLED screen using a built-in accelerometer. When the Astera button is pressed—provided the unit is not connected to its ChargingPlate—the screen switches to a tilt-only mode, then returns to the standard display once aiming is complete.
The QuikPunch also integrates seamlessly with Astera’s wireless control ecosystem. It is compatible with the AsteraApp and includes built-in support for LumenRadio CRMX, UHF, Bluetooth, and infrared remote control. Wired control is also supported via 5-pin XLR input and output for DMX/RDM. Setup and configuration are streamlined through tools like the ChargingPlate and PrepBox, allowing users to assign DMX addresses, adjust fixture settings, and establish wireless links in seconds. Up to eight units can be simultaneously charged, configured, and prepped within a dedicated ChargingCase, optimizing workflow and reducing downtime.
Astera has not yet announced availability or pricing for the QuikPunch.
