Brightin Star Launches 60mm f/2.8 2x Macro Lens
Brightin Star has introduced a 60mm f/2.8 II 2x Macro lens designed primarily for APS-C mirrorless cameras. The lens is fully manual, with no electronic communication between lens and body, and is offered in multiple mounts including Canon RF, Canon EF-M, Sony E, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X, and Micro Four Thirds. On Canon APS-C cameras the focal length provides an effective field of view equivalent to approximately 96mm, while on other APS-C systems it is closer to 90mm, placing it in the short-telephoto range typically associated with macro work.
The defining characteristic of the lens is its 2:1 maximum magnification, allowing subjects to be reproduced at twice life size on the sensor. The minimum focusing distance is approximately 0.18 meters, enabling tight framing for small subjects such as insects, jewelry, flowers, and product details. The lens employs an internal focusing design, so the barrel length does not extend during close focusing, which can be advantageous when working at high magnifications or with lighting positioned near the subject.
Optically, the lens consists of 10 elements arranged in seven groups and includes extra-low dispersion elements, a hybrid element, and an aspherical element. According to the manufacturer, multi-layer nano coatings are applied to reduce flare and ghosting and to maintain contrast. The aperture ranges from f/2.8 to f/22 and uses a multi-blade diaphragm intended to maintain relatively smooth out-of-focus rendering. At wider apertures, the shallow depth of field typical of macro photography can be used for subject isolation, while stopping down increases depth of field for greater detail across the frame.
As mentioned, operation is entirely mechanical. The focus ring offers approximately 160 degrees of rotation to allow for precise adjustments, and the aperture ring features clicked stops, with some versions offering the option of de-clicked control for smoother transitions during video recording. Because there are no electronic contacts, aperture data is not transmitted to the camera body, and certain mounts may require the camera to be set to release without lens attached.
The lens measures roughly 72–73mm in diameter and about 112–123mm in length depending on mount, with a weight in the range of 700 to 900 grams. It accepts 67mm front filters.
